Biophilia

Biophilia, a photo series by Annegien van Doorn, is all about our distorted connection with (fake) nature. For centuries people collected flowers and plants, preserving a flattened version pressed between book pages. We applied this herbarium technique on a modern version of nature and pressed an artificial flower onto the cover of every book.

While the flowers melt into a crooked version of an actual herbarium, they start to show their true nature: coloured plastic.
